It has been a wild few months, hasn’t it? Even outside of the global pandemic, having to handle my final semester was a challenge when it came to updating the site. It’s always been a problem, which is why I am so inactive here. Yet senior year is perhaps when it was at its worst for me.

But in the end, I graduated. I submitted my thesis, a book about film productions in Philadelphia, that I hope to one day see real publication. You can check out my work on it here.

So with the biggest obstacle of my life out of the way, it’s no better time than now to actually deliver consistent content. Problem comes with the fact I, and the rest of the world, are still slowly trying to bring ourselves back into normalcy. Movie theaters are slowly reopening, with July’s Tenet expected to be the glorious return of the big screen.

There’s still plenty of time between then. Major releases like Tenet or Mulan could be pushed back a few months. Even if it does turn out people are allowed to go to the movies, though under social distancing guidelines, I’m not even sure if I would be comfortable going. This begs the question: what about reviews?

The first, and obvious answer, is streaming and PVOD releases. Netflix has had plenty of great offerings this year, and I hope to get around to the options this month, like All Day and a Night and The Half of It and the upcoming The Lovebirds. The success of Trolls World Tour on VOD, becoming a threat to the theatrical experience in the process, has also led to the animated film Scoob! arriving this Friday, and the Pete Davidson comedy The King of Staten Island next month. There’s plenty of good material that I hope I can offer in the next few days.

But I feel I wanted something else to help occupy my time and give me a consistent schedule, and I think I found the perfect solution. The advent of Disney+ has allowed the opportunity for one of the largest studio libraries to be accessible for the low price of $7 per month. A library full of animation’s best, popular live-action offerings, iconic acquisitions, and plenty of nonsensical garbage in between. It’s a legacy that is quite fascinating. It has worn many hats, has distinct eras, good and bad, and it would be interesting to look at this legacy.

I can’t say when this will start, but expect very soon the weekly series Plus or Minus, reviewing every movie available on Disney+ in release order. Yes, all of them. From theatrical to direct-to-DVD to TV, everything. It’ll be an interesting undertaking, that will be full of surprises and I’m very excited to see what my endeavor entails.
